standby_mode

A replication configuration parameter indicating a server should start as a standby

standby_mode is a replication configuration parameter indicating a server should start as a standby.

standby_mode was added in PostgreSQL 9.0 and replaced in PostgreSQL 12 by standby.signal.

Usage

When setting up streaming replication, hot_standby must be set to on in recovery.conf to ensure the server starts up as a standby and attempts to fetch WAL from either the upstream server defined in primary_conninfo or by retrieving WAL files using the method defined in restore_command.
